The script runs along not taking itself to seriously or to lightly striking a nice balance similiar to the Hercules/Xena tv shows of the 90s for comparison. ***Warning to kids the Medusa scene could freak them out a bit, but shouldn't be too bad Parents should watch for mild nudity near the beginning of a nursing mother and towards the end as the princess baths before her trip to see the Kraken, but otherwise this film should entertain safely. It has a love story of sorts for the girls and some duels for the fellas all thrown in for a brisk paced movie. We meet the Kraken, Pegasus, oracles, giant scorpions, Medusa and witness Persus rise to one challenge after another thrown at him. Harry Hamlin keeps it grounded as a young niave hero, Burguess Meredith plays the mentor role and we are treated to a calidescope of mythical creatures along the way. ![]() The story centers around Persus, son of Zeus and his many challenges rising from jealous Hera and numerous monsters along the way. This film is a real joy to watch pure imaginative escapicism in the styles of the old Sinbad and Hercules movies from the past. Writer Beverly Cross was one of the writers on 1963's Ray Harryhausen film, JASON AND THE ARGONAUTS. Burgess Meredith, Claire Bloom, Maggie Smith and Ursula Andress round out the cast as the Gods of Mount Olympus.Director Desmond Davis was camera operator on TOM JONES and A TASTE OF HONEY, two influential early 1960s British films. Laurence Olivier, as Zeus, is one of the many screen legends in this adventure. LAW's Harry Hamlin stars as the Greek mythological hero Perseus who fights snake-haired Medusa and two-headed dogs to save the lovely Andromeda (Judi Bowker).
